I read both books long ago so don't remember the policing part so well. Helter Skelter scared the shit out of me. I read it 2nd year at UVA - not even for a class. I don't know why I was reading non class book, but once started, it's hard to put down. We had ground level apartment and my bed was by the window and I had nightmares of Manson family breaking through the window and slicing me up. It is a great book and I do remember the flailing of the police. I get sad about the remaining killers who are still alive - Leslie Van Houton I think is maybe the last. She was lost 17 ? year old who got wrapped up in all this. She's been a model prisoner. She's nearly 80? Why does she still sit in jail.

You should have mentioned that "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" was set within the Manson murders. Great movie! Great cast my mancrush Pitt, Margot Robbie and that DiCaprio guy. what more do you want!

It's a lot scarier than In Cold Blood! The Manson Family was certifiably NUTS -- Susan Atkins just blabbing away in prison about savagely murdering a bunch of strangers. Truly terrifying they were just randomly targeting people, fully believing that slicing them up was a kindness. Van Houten was actually released in 2023. Bobby Beausoleil's still in prison -- Newsom keeps overturning his parole recommendations.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was a good one. I need to watch it again after reading this book.

I didn't realized Van Houten was released. Last time I heard, her parole had been denied. Glad to hear she's out!
